welcome…
to the sow’s ear and to our rocky mountain republic, el san juan. the san juans have been here since the tertiary period, about 60,000,000 years before the birth of Christ. we appeared 1,986 years afterward when bill roberts, ken walker, val charles, greg shepard, terry sweeney and a few of their nearest and dearest decided to see what kinds of mischief they could make on the mountain. aided and abetted by the chefs johnson, o’rourke, angell, tassey, bost, getzlaff, henry, moran, mccarthy, glasgow, austin, devaux, mehaffie, sack, jillson, gettier, ryan, waggoner, puchalla, martin, isgar, perkins, grenz, dearien, krause, ray, dougherty, workman, kaplan, badgley, howell, frye, cass, knowles, harshberger, evans, crowthers, woodward, renza, woodard, schon, edwards, vickers, leach, kahler, glasser, griffin, hallwirth, rome, arter, hammer, daly, and wing we were brought to our present state in the alternate reality. we were preceded by the anasazi, by the weminuche, by the conquistadores, the miners, old man hotter and by three or four restaurants, notably the alpenhoff tatzer and the infamous elk run. In the fall of 1997 we were booted from the lodge at purgatory and landed a mile south here at home of three diamond prime mountain accommodations, the silverpick lodge. the lodge was built in 1984 on part of the hotter ranch famous for being the burial grounds of one bert wilkinson, the last man ever to be lynched in silverton colorado. burt fell in with a bad crowd and was involved in a night time shootout that resulted in the death of david clayton ogsbury, the sheriff. bert made good his escape from town, but one of his friends, the infamous outlaw ike stockton, betrayed him to the justice of the good citizens of silverton town for $1421.43. the righteous in their turn broke him out of jail, and the rest is history. the silverpick lodge offers accommodations for up to 50 lucky people in 13 private rooms as well as a small spa, game room, family room with full kitchen, library, hiking trails and free ski shuttle. our specialties are family reunions, weddings and ski bums. we also offer 20 tastefully appointed condominiums for those who wish the amenities of a fully furnished apartment. tonight you are dining at 8776.66 feet above sea level at the base of the hermosa cliffs and are surrounded by a host of 12,000, 13,000 & 14,000-foot peaks, home to an avid group of skiers, snowboarders, monoboarders, pinheads and various other denizens of durango mountain resort. our walls are hung with the art of eileen ferstad, peter ladd, ed krause, katrina clark, paul folwell, sheldon blackwell, judy morgan and jeremy pease. the ski pole baskets in the mobile were collected way, way back in the day by andy ward. the jackaleena by the door is a rare mount of a species indigenous to el san juan and surrounded by a mystique rising from the combined effects of herdura tequila and other, more magical elements. please enjoy your meal! our meat is the best, everything is fresh and we do it all here. the johns are downstairs to the right, and below that, a game room for you and your children.
as is customary, a 20% gratuity will be added to all parties of six or more and to all separate checks.
